| SC issues contempt notice to Sindh CM’s secy, four cops |

ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to Special Secretary to the Sindh Chief Minister and four police officials, including the Shikarpur district police officer in a contempt case after expressing its dissatisfaction over the inquiry report submitted by the Sindh Inspector-General of Police Jehangir Mirza.
An SC bench, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad, expressed its dissatisfaction over the inquiry report submitted by the IGP, who appeared before the court in person. The notices were issued to Special Secretary to the Chief Minister, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali, and four policemen, including Shikarpur DPO Farid Jan Sirhindi and two police inspectors.
IGP Mirza apprised the court of the action taken against Rahim Shah, SHO New Town, Karachi, who was made responsible for his misconduct with Mehboob Ali Sheikh and dismissed from service for his illegal act.
Sindh Additional Advocate-General Qazi Khalid Ali also appeared before the court and represented the State. The bench, directed IGP Mirza to appoint a senior and well-reputed officer to inquire into the matter again and submit report before the court. The case will be fixed for hearing in the third week of next month, the bench said.
According to the contempt application, Mehboob Ali Sheikh was arrested by the SHO New Town Karachi, Rahim Shah just after his release from the jail on bail and shifted to Chief Minister House.
According to para 9 of the application, Sheikh was produced before the above-mentioned special secretary by the New Town Police. On the orders of the special secretary, Mehboob Ali Sheikh was shifted to Shikarpur, where he was kept in the Faujdari Police Station without any FIR and registration of case.
On the application of the son of Mehboob Ali Sheikh, the Shikarpur district and sessions judge and judicial magistrate raided the police station and found Mehboob Ali Sheikh kept there illegally and without registration of any case or even entry into the register of the police station.
