ISLAMABAD: In a new phase of changes at command, staff and instructional cadres, Lieutenant General Khalid Nawaz has been appointed to command all important 10-Corps (Rawalpindi).


Bringing President Pervez Musharraf’s key man Lt-Gen Nadeem Taj back to the GHQ as Adjutant General (AG), Lt-Gen Jamil Haider has been sent to Gujranwala to command corps. Lt-Gen Khalid Nawaz, presently serving as Commandant Staff College Quetta, would succeed Lt-Gen Tahir as Corps Commander Rawalpindi. Tahir has been shifted to the GHQ as Inspector-General Arms. Present IG Arms Lt-Gen Jamil Haider got Gujranwala Corps as its commander. Lt-Gen Taj, would succeed Lt-Gen Javed Zia, who has already been appointed as commander of the southern command (Quetta).


Commander Southern Command Lt-Gen Khalid Shamim Wyne has already been appointed as Chief of General Staff (CGS) and he has taken over charge, which gives clear indication of the future military set-up and its hierarchy once the prime minister takes decisions on appointments of the new chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and the new Army chief or giving extension to General Kayani after November 28.


Lt-Gen Mustafa Khan was recently appointed as Corps Commander Mangla and he is far junior in the seniority list of 3-star generals. Another recently promoted 3-star General Haroon Aslam has been appointed as Deputy Chairman ERRA.
