ISLAMABAD: Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated on Saturday across the country and Azad Kashmir with great zeal and fervour and in commemoration of the supreme sacrifice offered by Hazrat Ibrahim(AS) and his son Hazrat Ismail(AS) in the fulfillment of the divine order.
Special prayers were offered for the prosperity of the country and unity among the Muslim Ummah. The faithful offered sacrifices of animals in accordance with the Sunnah Ibrahimi.The main Eid congregation in the federal capital was held at the Faisal mosque.
President Asif Ali Zardari offered Eid-ul-Azha prayers at the mosque of Aiwan-e-Sadr. Besides the staff of the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and high ranking officials also offered Eid prayers with the president. Later, the president exchanged Eid greetings with those, who offered Eid prayers with him.
Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt called on the President Asif Ali Zardari here at Aiwan-e-Sadr and exchanged Eid greetings with him.
Diplomats of different countries based in Islamabad also visited the President House to exchange Eid greetings with President Zardari.
A large number of people from different walks of life, including political workers, visited the Aiwan-e-Sadr to exchange Eid greetings with President Asif Ali Zardari.
The president received every guest, embraced him and exchanged greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Along with enjoying the festivities of Eid-ul-Azha and visiting relatives and friends, a large number of people visited graveyards to offer Fateha for their departed loved ones.
The residents of the twin cities visited cemeteries to pray for the dead, following the teachings of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), after offering the Eid prayers.
They offered Fateha and recited verses from the Holy Quran while sitting beside the graves of their family members and friends. They also showered rose petals and placed wreaths on the graves.
People living in the rest of the country also celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with great enthusiasm and offered sacrifices of animals following the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim and Hazrat Ismail. In Lahore, the main Eid congregation was held at Badshahi Mosque.
Meanwhile, Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated in Khyber Pakthunkhwa and tribal areas with religious zeal on Saturday with a renewed pledge to work hard for the country’s progress and prosperity and peace in the society.
The faithful sacrificed animals to commemorate ‘Sunnat e Ibrahimi (AS)’ and distributed the meat amongst the poor. Eid prayers were offered at all principal mosques in the provincial capital and district and agency headquarters where hundreds of thousands of believers thronged mosques for prayer and performed Qurbani.
The main Eid congregation was held at Governor House Peshawar where the KP Governor and Chief Minister besides provincial ministers offered their Eid prayers and later mixed up with people and exchanged Eid greetings with them. The governor also delivered cheques of Rs10,000 along with sweets and gifts among Internally Displaced People (IDPs) of Fata, housed at Jalozai, here at Govenror House.
Other main Eid congregations were held at Eidgah Charsadda road, Masjid Qasim Ali Khan, Masjid Mohabbat Khan, Masjid Dilawar Khan, Sunehri Masjid etc.
In the settled parts of the province and Fata, Eid prayers were held at over 500 places which were largely attended by the believers.
In Balochistan, Eid prayer congregations were held at all small and big towns during which the faithful offered special prayer for prosperity and integrity of the country and unity among the Muslim Ummah.
In the provincial capital, Eid-ul-Azha prayer congregations were held amid tight security as heavy deployment of law enforcement agencies officials was witnessed around Eidgahs and mosques. Walkthrough gates had been installed at exit and entry points of Eidghas in sensitive areas. Service of all mobile networks remained suspended in the city in view of security threats depriving the citizens to extend Eid greetings to their loved ones.
Eid fairs were also held in parts of city where children with glowing faces with happiness enjoyed camel rides and swings.
Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani offered Eid prayer in Sarawan House while, Governor Balochistan Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi, the provincial ministers and MPAs celebrated Eid at their home towns.
The City Municipal Corporation had made adequate arrangements to remove the remains of sacrificial animals.
No untoward incident was reported from across the province on the day.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, main Eid congregation was held at Central Eidgah in Muzaffarabad.
