| LAHORE PAKISTAN Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Monday alleged the PPP-led government had assured visiting US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher that American policies would continue in the tribal region. According to a statement, Imran was addressing a party gathering at the inauguration ceremony of Insaf Traders’ Wing Lahore. Imran asked President Zardari to take practical measures to prevent insurgents from Afghanistan crossing into Pakistan instead of issuing rhetorical statements. He alleged the ruling elite was busy settling their own issues and were least interested in problems faced by the common man. Imran observed the war on terror had nothing to do with Pakistan but the greed of foreign aid had blinded rulers to the massacre of Pakistani citizens. Imran asked the government to speed up investigation into Benazir Bhutto’s assassination as the nation demanded perpetrators of this crime be exposed. He advised the government against using the case for scoring points. Blasting the eight-month performance of the PPP, Imran said the ruling party had failed to address any single issue of the country as status quo could be seen regarding judges’ restoration and the situation in tribal areas. Imran alleged President Asif Zardari had given assurances to the US before being elected as the president that the government would continue military operation in FATA as long as the US wanted. “Zardari assured Washington that he would remain faithful to the US and do as commanded,” Imran said. He accused the PPP government of giving a safe passage to Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf through an underhand deal as it parried bringing the former President for questioning by the Parliament. The nation unanimously demands that Pervez Musharraf should be held accountable for every penny and for every murder, he said. Imran opined the PPP was afraid of an independent judiciary given its aversion to the reinstatement of deposed CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry. He said the independence of judiciary could not be achieved without the deposed CJ’s reinstatement. |
