MANSEHRA: Two alleged militants were killed and two cops injured in an exchange of fire in Balakot Friday, police officials said. The officials said Mohammad Owais and Mohammad Basit attacked a police party in Hassan area and both the ‘terrorists’ were killed in the incident.
Two policemen, Mohammad Muzaffar and Mohammad Shahid, were also injured and were rushed to hospital in Abbottabad. Addressing a press conference, Deputy Inspector General of Police Imtiaz Altaf said that both the militants were active in Hazara division and also involved in terrorist activities in other parts of the country. He said Basit had also attempted to target a religious procession of a rival sect last year in Balakot. He claimed that two suicide jackets, detonators, five hand-grenades and a Kalashnikov rifle were also recovered from the militants’ vehicle.
The police official said the terrorists had changed their tactics and wanted to target people. In reply to a question, he said apparently the two ‘terrorists’ wanted to target the people offering Friday prayer at the main mosque. He announced that promotion or rewards would shortly be announced for the police party that killed the two militants.
