This letter refers to the editorial ‘Symbol, strategy or apathy?’ (April 30, 2024). It seems that for the post of deputy prime minister, which is not even mandatory, we could not find even one competent individual in a country of over 200 million? It appears that the ‘family affair’ in this country continues unabated as the editorial suggests. Some argue that there is no provision in the constitution for this post but then there is no bar or prohibition either. This is a weak argument as there are many thousands of things not mentioned in the constitution. Does this mean all these things are allowed? Some things are left to the moral judgement of the custodians of the constitution, but it seems that was not enough for the politicians. This action will only add to the displeasure the PML-N has already accrued with the outcome of the elections.
