 US stands by Pakistan in war against terror: Hillary

ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said that terrorists are enemies of innocent people, killing naive children and women, hitting educational institutions and commercial centers in thickly populated areas.

Hillary Clinton expressed solidarity with the police force and said that the US stood by Pakistan in rooting out the menace of terrorism and securing the future of the country.She said that Pakistan and America were jointly fighting against terrorism to maintain peace in the world. “We are facing a common threat and I am here to express solidarity with the police force,” the US secretary of state said.

The Capital City Police arranged a function at the Police Headquarters H-11 on Friday to show solidarity with the police force and families of 41 police martyrs, who sacrificed their lives during the war against terror.

Hillary Clinton graced the function with her presence. While showing solidarity with the police martyrs, she said the terrorists were not only trying to demoralise the police force but also threatening the life of the children. US Ambassador in Pakistan Anne W Patterson was also accompanying her.

Hillary Clinton paid rich tributes to the services of the Army, the police force and other law enforcing agencies for the sake of the country and said they were offering great sacrifices to defeat a common enemy.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the nation was fully prepared to fight back terrorists, as there was no option except to defeat them. Later, Interior Minister Rehman Malik thanked US Secretary of State for showing solidarity with Pakistan and said, “Our nation has the resolve and determination to combat terrorists and we know how to defeat them”.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police Syed Kaleem Imam in his welcome address said that Islamabad Police had nabbed several terrorists and their facilitators. He announced to set up a trust for the children of martyred cops that would bear their educational expenses.

On arrival, the US Secretary of State, a smartly turned out contingent of police presented guard of honour. Later, she was also introduced with the women police officers of anti-terrorist squad who were imparted special training to fight terrorists.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also laid floral wreath on the memorial of martyred policemen. She also met with the family members of martyred cops and appreciated their patience.
