MINGORA: A militant blew himself up during a raid conducted by the security forces in Marghozar town in the suburbs of Mingora city, while the security forces arrested a teenager alleged to be a would-be suicide bomber in the Chota Kalam area near Nangolai on Friday, sources said.

The sources said that acting on a tip-off, the security forces raided a house in Marghozar to arrest a militant identified as Ayaz. The militant opened fire on the security forces and then blew himself up before his arrest. The security forces arrested militant’s father Ahmed Jan and his minor brother.

Meanwhile, the security forces, with support of the local armed volunteers, arrested a teenager alleged to be a would-be suicide bomber in the Chota Kalam area near Nangolai on Friday, sources said.

The sources said the security forces and the lashkar, organised with support of the government to keep militants at bay in their respective villages, were tipped off about the 17-year-old bomber who allegedly was about to hit a target during the Friday congregations.

On the basis of the information, the security forces along with the Bara Bandai lashkar cordoned off the area and apprehended the accused bomber identified as Shirin Muhammad son of Ahmad Jan, a resident of Shedala village in Matta tehsil of Swat. On the occasion, the armed volunteers reaffirmed their pledge never to allow the defeated militants stage a comeback and play havoc with the hard-won peace in Swat.
