BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer has said governor rule will not be imposed in the Punjab.
He said this while speaking at the 55th Foundation Day of the Sadiq Public School Bahawalpur on Saturday.
He said there was a democratic rule in the country and every individual had a right to do whatever he liked. About the issue of district Nazims, he said that the Nazims were the elected representatives of the people and they were performing their duties in accordance with the Constitution.
He said the government would announce a special
grant for the Sadiq Public School.
He paid glowing tributes to the Amir of Bahawalpur, Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi, for establishing an institution like that of Eton and Harrow in Bahawalpur.
He said the Sadiq Public School had been imparting quality education to thousands of children since 1954.
He said Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi had also established a number of educational institutions across the country beside the Sadiq Public School.
Appreciating the achievements of students of the Sadiq Public School in curricular and extra-curricular activities, he said the students were lucky as they were studying in a school which had a glorious past.
He said such facilities should be provided to those schools where poor children were studying.
“We have a history and culture spanning over thousands of years and we have to work hard to keep our civilization and traditions alive,” he said.
Later, the governor gave away prizes and certificates to the position holders of the school’s junior, senior and girls sections.
The governor also invited District Nazim Tariq Bashir Cheema to Lahore to discuss some political issues with him.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Sadiq Public School principal briefed the Punjab governor on the school’s history, its achievements and future plans.
The governor was also presented guard of honour by the school’s cadets.
Yet earlier, Salmaan Taseer was given a rousing welcome on his arrival.
The PML-N legislators, a majority of whom are Sadiqians, boycotted the function.
