Updated at: 2200 PST, Wednesday, November 19, 2008
BRUSSELS: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has urged Nato to halt Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) attacks within Pakistani territory.

Addressing Nato defence chiefs’ meeting here, Kayani said he believes there is no military solution to the Afghan situation and it is necessary to understand the geo-strategic situation of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

General Kayani said that coordinated actions should be undertaken to avoid any border violation in future. General Kayani in his address apprised the Nato military committee of the overall security situation in the region. He also highlighted Pakistan's perspective on operational issues and the way forward.

The Army Chief clearly spelt the need for security and stability in the region through a comprehensive approach. He highlighted the need to reinforce Pakistan's effort and operate in a coordinated manner within respective national boundaries.

Earlier, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani held separate bilateral meeting with Secretary General Nato, Jaap Hoop D Schesser and Chairman Military Committee Nato, Admiral Giampaolo Di Paolo.

He held individual meetings with French Chief of Defence and Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, USA.

General Kayani also attended a luncheon hosted by Chairman Military Committee, which was attended by all chiefs of Nato members as well as those from partnership for peace nations.
