LAHORE: In response to heightened security concerns, the Home Department of Punjab, under the directive of chief minister Punjab, has taken decisive steps to bolster the safety of Chinese and foreign nationals, particularly those engaged in projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other endeavours.
The directive, issued to the DIG Special Protection Unit, mandates immediate procurement or arrangement of bulletproof vehicles to ensure the safety of Chinese and foreign nationals working on both CPEC and non-CPEC projects across Punjab. Expressing concern for the security of Chinese citizens and employees, the Home Department emphasized the urgent need to elevate security measures without delay. As per the directive, Chinese citizens working within public and private institutions are to be provided with bulletproof vehicles for their travel.
Furthermore, the Home Department has set a stringent timeline, requiring the acquisition or rental of bulletproof vehicles for Chinese citizens within two days. In the absence of such vehicles, projects involving the participation of Chinese nationals are to be halted until further notice, ensuring safety and well-being of all involved.
Sources said this proactive approach by the Punjab government underscores its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the interests and security of foreign nationals contributing to vital projects within the province.
