This is in reference to “The real mystery of the KLB debate” (Oct 24) by Sadiq Saleem. The article is consistent with the typical PPP mantra of an ‘establishment conspiracy’ against President Zardari. If by the establishment Mr Saleem means a nexus of bureaucrats, military and intelligence agencies, then could it be the same establishment Mr Zardari and his cohorts struck the infamous NRO deal with? Regardless, how many draconian American bills were silently digested by the Pakistani juntas in the past, one expects a little more transparency from the supposedly-democratic current government. Had Senator John Kerry been serious to convert the explanatory statement into law, all he had to do was to attach it to any bill coming to the floor for voting. It is a common practice among US legislators to get their pet projects approved this way.
Mr Saleem must be also aware that YouTube is littered with videos in which as late as few months ago, Ambassador Haqqani — who somehow manages to squeeze himself in every government — still never misses an opportunity to insist on the points that are also coincidentally found in both the KLB and the book he wrote five years ago!
