Communication means to be built on modern lines: PM
Sunday, October 11, 2009
By our correspondent

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Saturday that the government was determined to build the communication infrastructure on modern lines.

“The development of infrastructure is the key to the development of any country as such projects generate economic as well as employment opportunities for the local people,” he said while inaugurating the dual carriageway project of Lehtrar Road in Islamabad, which will be completed at a cost of Rs 735 million.

Referring to the development of Islamabad, the prime minister said efforts were underway to make it a model city as it was the symbol of unity and integrity of the country.

He said under the master plan of the capital, the city would be made more attractive for investment and business activities. In this connection, there is a need to construct more IT parks, trade centres, hotels, tourist resorts and conference halls.

He lauded the CDA for initiating various development projects, including roads, and said their timely completion in line with the international standards would bring a healthy change in the lives of people.

About the Lehtrar Road Project, the prime minister said that it would not only benefit the local population but also provide an alternative route to Murree and Azad Kashmir.

Chairman CDA Imtiaz Inayat Elahi said the project would serve the residents of the local area by easing the flow of existing traffic load on the Lehtrar Road. He said it would provide faster and shortest connection to Lehtrar, Nilore, Kahuta, Alipur Farash, Tumair, Simly, PinStech along with the development of Zone IV and provide alternate connectivity between Islamabad-Rawalpindi to Murree, Patriata and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, especially to Bagh and Rawalakot. The project will also facilitate the development of newly-opened housing societies of Islamabad Zone IV.
