| Military kills 14 militants in Swat |

PESHAWAR: Security forces on Monday killed 14 Taliban militants in Tiligram area of the restive Swat Valley as the NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti pledged an early restoration of normal life to the militancy-shattered valley during his address at the Green Chowk in Mingora.
According to the ISPR, security forces engaged the militants’ hideouts in Tiligram area of Charbagh during their action against the militants.“Security forces killed 14 terrorists during an exchange of fire in Tiligram. A huge quantity of ammunition and explosives, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), one 14.5 gun barrel and 26 detonators were also recovered,î the ISPR media update said.
Security forces, it added, during a search operation in Banjut area recovered 50 mules, loaded with arms and ammunition, medicines and ration items and apprehended an unspecified number of terrorists.
The search operation was also conducted in Thana, a town of the Malakand Agency, situated on the border with the Swat Valley. In Dir Lower, security forces confiscated 2,156 rounds of small machine gun, 9,728 rounds of light machine gun, seven hand grenades and eight magazines of small machine gun from a vehicle at the Kharkanai Chowk.
According to the ISPR, so far, 4,872 families have returned to Bajaur, Buner, Shangla and Dir.Meanwhile, NWFP Chief Minister Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti visited the troubled Swat Valley and addressed the people at the Green Chowk.
The chief minister said the militants would not be allowed to regroup in the area and they would be defeated. About the IDPs, Hoti said: “The days of their woes are about to end. They will soon resume normal and peaceful life with all basic facilities.î
The chief minister, who also visited the volatile Buner district, announced doubling the strength of police force in Swat and Buner. He said the number of the police stations would also be increased.
Our Landikotal/Bara correspondents add: Several militants were reportedly killed and many others sustained injuries when the military gunship helicopters targeted their suspected hideouts in Tabai Kandao and Gagrina areas in Landikotal sub-division of the Khyber Agency on Monday evening, sources said. Security forces also pounded the suspected hideouts of the militants in the mountainous Gagrina area in Landikotal with artillery from Fort Slope Camp in Bara.
