Ariana Grande gets candid about her first day on the set of Wicked while gracing the red carpet of the 2024 Met Gala Monday night.
“My first day on set for Wicked was the most emotional day of my life,” Grande, who was dressed in a custom Loewe ball gown, recalled while speaking to Variety.
“All I remember was holding hands with Cynthia [Erivo] and Jon [Chu] and crying. And [Jon] saying, ‘Welcome to “Wicked.”‘”
Wicked, which co-stars Erivo and Grande as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, is the feature adaptation of Winnie Holzman’s 2003 Tony Award-winning musical.
The movie is based on the story of the unusual friendship between the soon-to-be "Wicked Witch of the West" and the "Good Witch of the South", and plays around how their lives change after facing the great and powerful Wizard of Oz.
Grande also talked about the natural chemistry between her and Erivo which grew stronger with a powerful bond they shared while filming.
“She is really truly my sister. We really found in each other things we needed,” Grande explained. “I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
