Pesco busts illegal power connections

PESHAWAR: A drive against illegal use of electricity is in full swing throughout the province. According to a Peshawar Electric Supply Company press release, a Wapda House Peshawar surveillance team raided in different areas of Pesco Mardan Circle. The team unearthed 15 commercial and industrial illegal connections.  Cases were registered against the culprits and further investigation initiated.Five industrial and 45 domestic and commercial power meters were found tampered.

 

JI to induct 100,000 in youth programme

MANSEHRA: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) will induct 100,000 youngsters in its youth programme being launched from February 19 in the district.Dr Tariq Sherazi, JI district head, told reporters on Sunday that the programme would continue from February 19 to March 18. “I am optimistic that we will achieve our target and even more youngsters would join us,” said Dr Sherazi.

Govt urged to forge consensus on Kalabagh Dam

Islamabad:    Patron Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders Shahid Rasheed Butt on Sunday asked the government to try to forge consensus on Kalabagh dam which would be an achievement bigger than the recent LNG deal. Renewed efforts aimed at unanimity among stakeholders over this issue will settle fears of flood, food security, water scarcity and energy crisis, he said. Butt said that government should educate masses about the misconception that KBD will increase problems as dams are built to tackle problems. He said that KBD will irrigate 6.1 million acre of land boosting agricultural production which will help country earn foreign exchange through exports. Sindh will get additional 2.257 acre foot of water with no negative impact in Indus delta.

 

Two killed, 21 injured in bus-van collision

BUREWALA: Two passengers were killed while 21 others, including women and children, injured in a collision between a bus and a van near Haji Morr on Lahore Road on Sunday. Reportedly, a bus (MNS-2186) was going to Lahore from Burewala when it collided with a van (BK-2513) while overtaking another bus. As a result, Muhammad Yaqoob, Arifwala, and Niaz Ahmad, Arifwala, were killed on the spot while 21 others, including Sanam Bibi, Iram Bibi, Shakil Ahmad, van driver Muhammad Ashfaq, Safia Bibi, Muhammad Rafique, Raja Riaz Ahmad, Sadiqan Bibi, Rukhsana Bibi, Muhammad Habib, Allah Ditta, Zafar Iqbal, Nasreen Bibi, Hameedan Bibi, Shakeel Ahmad and Muhammad Nawaz, were injured. The injured people were shifted to the Burewala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

 

Two children die in Gujranwala accident

GUJRANWALA: Two children died in a road accident near City Housing Scheme here on Sunday. Akash (14) and his cousins Noor Fatima (6) and Kashif (7), residents of Adho Rai, were on their way by a motorcycle when a speeding tractor-trolley hit their motorcycle on the GT Road. As a result, Noor Fatima and Kashif died on the spot while Akash received serious injuries. The injured was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

 

Two dead, as many injured in Malakwal accidents

MALAKWAL: Two people were killed while as many sustained injuries in separate road accidents here on Sunday. Shamrez and his brother were on their way by a bike when a speeding car hit them near Qadirabad. As a result, Shamrez died on the spot while his brother sustained injuries. In another incident, Iftikhar and two other labourers were busy working near a trailer when suddenly the vehicle overturned and they came under the vehicle. As a result, all three labourers were injured and rushed to a hospital where Iftikhar succumbed to injuries.

 

Biker dies, another hurt in Okara accident

OKARA: A man was killed while his friend sustained injuries in an accident near Renala Khurd on Sunday. Muhammad Rizwan and his friend Allah Ditta of Habibabad were on their way by a motorcycle when a speeding trailer hit them. As a result, Rizwan died on the spot while Allah Ditta sustained injuries. Sadar Renala Khurd police have registered a case.

 

Training for security guards

NANKANA SAHIB: Police on Sunday imparted training to security guards of various educational institutions at the Government Guru Nanak High School here. More than 300 security guards participated in the training in which they were trained regarding handling of weapons. Meanwhile, the Quick Response Force teams were also formed, which would lead by concerned DSPs and would react immediately in emergency situation.

 

Man killed over minor issue in Sialkot

SIALKOT: A 25-year-old man was killed over a minor issue at Dera Mast Shah in Naikapura police limits on Saturday night.  Muzamil was on way home when Husnain, Faizan and Bhutto allegedly shot at and injured him. He was shifted to a local hospital where he died. It is learnt that the accused and the deceased had quarrelled with each other over some issue a few days ago. Police have registered a case and started investigation.

 

Boy dies as pistol goes off accidentally

GUJRANWALA: A 12-year-old boy died when a pistol went off accidentally at Daska on Sunday. Subhan was playing with a pistol when the weapon went off accidentally. As a result, a bullet hit him and he sustained serious injuries. Later, he was being shifted to a hospital but he died on the way.
