Governor links progress to education

Punjab Governor/Chancellor University of Education Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana has said progress of Pakistan is linked to education. He also highlighted the crucial role of teachers in this regard saying education must be knowledge based as education without knowledge was meaningless.  

The governor was speaking at the 4th convocation of University of Education on Monday in which 44 PhDs, 153 MPhils and 112 gold medals and merit certificates were distributed among graduates. Chairman HEC Punjab Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, UoE Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam, Controller Examinations Dr Ashiq Hussain Dogar, Registrar Dr Manzoom Akhter, Principals of Campuses, Directors of Divisions, members of Syndicate and Academic Council, VC GCU Prof Dr Hasan Amir Shah, Regional Director AIOU Rasool Bakhsh Behram, faculty members and a large number of degree holder students and their parents attended the convocation. Muhammad Rafique Rajwana further said education was the basic right of every human being adding the government was very keen in providing quality education to every citizen. He also said provision of better education and proper job opportunities to students was the main responsibility of the government so that they could prepare themselves for future challenges. 

He also talked about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) saying many other projects were underway in the country under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. He advised the students to perform an active role based on their education and experience for the development and progress of the country.

The governor also said owners and administrations of private educational institutions should provide better opportunities of higher education to poor students terming it a moral duty.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam gave a detailed briefing about the university, academic activities, prominent statistics and other related matters.
