Developed Karachi means developed Pakistan: Alvi
KARACHI: President Dr Arif Alvi Saturday chaired a top-level meeting at the Governor House here in which the Karachi Transformation Plan being implemented in the city and efforts being made to develop basic civic infrastructure of the city came under discussion.
The meeting also discussed the early signs that emerged in the country of the fourth wave of coronavirus pandemic.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar, and Karachi-based member of National Assembly belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Aftab Siddiqui.
Dr Arif Alvi said progress of Pakistan was linked with progress of Karachi, as the plight of the people of the city couldn’t be ignored.
He said the federal government had been performing its fullest role to resolve the problems of Karachiites. He also laid particular emphasis on the importance of water conservation in Karachi and regretted that no such plan to preserve water had been formulated in the past.
The governor briefed the president about the steps taken by the federal government to ensure provision of clean potable water, sewage and municipal waste disposal, and mass transportation services to people of the city.
Asad Umar said clear signs had emerged in the country that the fourth wave of coronavirus pandemic had started due to violation of standard operating procedures.
The president appealed to the general public to get the anti-coronavirus vaccination at the earliest.
He also exhorted the people to duly follow the directives of National Command and Operation Centre in this regard to prevent the spread of the deadly infectious disease.
He maintained that the proactive decision-making had helped Pakistan avoid the kind of situation being witnessed in other countries with regard to the spread of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail met Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority, Lt General Akhtar Nawaz Dasti.
The meeting took into consideration ongoing development projects, desilting of storm water drains in Karachi, and related issues of mutual importance.
The governor assured utmost support and assistance to timely execute development projects being constructed in the city under the aegis of the NDMA.
