Islamabad : A condolence reference was held here on Sunday for former Senator Usman Kakar of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, who died from a head injury last Monday.
Noted among participants were former Balochistan governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai, PkMAP Senator Sardar Muhammad Shafiq Tareen, Pakistan People's Party secretary general Farhatullah Babar and seasoned politician Afrasiab Khattak.
The speakers paid homage to Usman Kakar over his struggle for civil supremacy, constitutionalism and rule of law in the country, and demanded an independent inquiry to determine the real cause of his death.
Senator Shafiq Tareen paid tribute to the deceased for 'being the voice of the voiceless and oppressed people in the country' and said mysterious circumstances surrounded his death, so an independent probe should be launched to reveal why and how the death occurred.
He said Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani had sent a letter to Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal seeking necessary steps for that probe. The participants later extended sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty Allah for resting the departed soul in peace.
