Laptop discrepancy

This refers to the letter, ‘Laptop promises’ (November 19) by Mona Afzal. I agree with the writer. If the Punjab government had promised to give laptops to class X students, then they should be given laptops. It is their right. They have worked hard to meet the eligibility criteria for the laptop distribution scheme.
The Punjab education minister had stated last year that class IX students should also work hard to get a brand new laptop. If the 2014 batch has received them now, then it is already too late. The government should ensure the distribution of laptops to this batch. It is not right to make these students wait. If there was some discrepancy in this scheme, the government should not have announced it in the first place.
