Dangerous profits

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, nearly 9000 road accidents have killed over 4500 people every year since 2011. One reason for this is the absence of safety features in locally assembled automobiles. The assemblers put the lives of drivers at risk for the sake of increased profit margins. Features such as airbags, Anti-lock Breaking Systems (ABS) and Electronic Break Force Distributions (EBD) can reduce the number of road fatalities significantly.
The government should ensure that the assemblers adopt safety features like the ABS and EBD. Furthermore, airbags should be made mandatory for all automobiles. Perhaps the FBR can consider reducing the import duties on Japanese cars which are equipped with all these features.
