Religious scholars urged to play role for unity

GUJRANWALA: Commissioner Shamail Ahmed Khawaja Wednesday urged religious scholars to play their due role for stability of the country and unity of the nation.
Addressing a peace committee meeting at his office regarding Muharam ul Harram, the commissioner lauded the vital role of religious scholars to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the country especially in Gujranwala division.
He said the scholars always have been extending their helping hand to the district administration to maintain peace.
He said religious scholars should preach their followers that Islam is a religion of peace.
He said no one would be allowed to violate the code of conduct and no Zakir or scholar would be allowed to attend Majalis from outside the district.
He said evil elements would be dealt with an iron hand.
The commissioner urged the people to discourage extremist elements.
He appealed the religious scholars to make special efforts for promoting understanding, patience, tolerance, unity and brotherhood in their areas of influence.
Ulema assured the Commissioner to play their role for religious harmony in the division.

GUJRANWALA: A woman was killed when a motorcycle rickshaw hit her of Wednesday.
Bushra and her husband were crossing the GT Road when a speeding motorcycle rickshaw hit them, leaving her dead on the spot and her husband wounded critically who was shifted to hospital.
