GUJRANWALA: The Provincial Cabinet Committee on Law and Order on Friday visited the city and held a meeting in the Commissioner Office to review security arrangements regarding Muharram.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that code of conduct would be observed strictly and no one would be allowed to play with the lives and properties of the people. He urged the scholars to help the district administration in maintaining peace during Muharram. He said that the government had taken stringent measures to maintain peace during the month of Muharram. He said that it was the religious and moral obligation of Ulema to promote the message of peace and harmony through their speeches and sermons in religious congregations. He said that no person would be allowed to spread rumours and disinformation or make hate speeches to create tension. Display of arms, firecrackers, explosives of any kind and ammunition at public places would be forbidden, he added.
He directed police to ensure foolproof security arrangements and deployment of policemen at Imambargahs and with mourning processions. The Ulema said they would extend full cooperation to the district administration to ensure peace during the month of Muharram. Punjab IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, Home Secretary Azam Salman, Additional IG Special Branch Faisal, RPO Waqas Nazir and others were also present.
Woman, daughter killed by train

GUJRANWALA: A woman and her daughter crushed to death by a train here on Friday.
The 30-year-old woman and her three-year-old daughter were crossing a railway line near Gondlanwala railway gate when a train crushed them to death. The victims could not be identified so far.
