Nowshera reports second death from coronavirus

NOWSHERA: Another patient died of coronavirus in Nowshera on Sunday, taking the total toll from the respiratory disorder to two, official sources said.

The Medical Superintendent of District Headquarters Hospital Dr Shuaib and DMS of the Qazi Medical Complex (QMC), Dr Zahid Khan, said the man who died of the viral disease was 75-year-old Safdar Nawaz of Saleh Khana area of the Nowshera district. The patient was under treatment at the QMC where he passed away at the isolation ward. His swab had been sent to the lab which came out to be positive.

The relatives of the deceased tried to take away the body by force by scuffling with the staff of the hospital. This led to trouble at the hospital. Assistant Commissioner Talha Zubair rushed to the spot along with the police force.

The body was taken from the hospital and buried at the ancestral graveyard of the deceased by following the World Health Organisation protocols. The two neighbourhoods were the deceased had stayed earlier- Bakhti village in Saleh Khana and Amar Colony No 2, Hakeemabad - were sealed for 14 days. Meanwhile, four more people tested positive for coronavirus. This took the tally of the patients to 28 in the Nowshera district.

Of these, two patients have recovered while 24 are under treatment at different health facilities. Another report said District and Sessions Judge of Nowshera, Shahnaz Hameed Khattak, said special precautionary steps had been undertaken at the local courts and prisons under the directives of the Peshawar High Court Chief Justice, Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
