A policeman and a woman, both in their 20s, ended their lives on Tuesday in separate incidents of suicide committed in the Baldia Town neighbourhood of the city.
Twenty-four-year-old Abdul Basit, son of Noor Muhammad, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his house in Baldia Town’s Sector 9D, which falls in the jurisdiction of the Ittehad Town police station. His body was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). SHO Nisar Ahmed Lodhi said the deceased had been a police constable posted at the Mauripur police station, adding that according to the cop’s father, Basit had been mentally ill.

Twenty-year-old Nazia, wife of Gul, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her house in Baldia Town’s Nawab Colony, which also falls in the jurisdiction of the Ittehad Town police station.
Taking action after the family informed them, police officials and rescue personnel reached the house and took the body to the CHK for conducting its post-mortem examination. Police said that their initial findings suggested that the woman had committed suicide, but they were investigating the case from all the different angles possible.
