Minister’s nominees for Kisan convention rejected

BAHAWALPUR: Kisan Ittehad leaders and activists have protested against the nominations of so-called Kisan representatives for the Kisan convention to be held in Islamabad on Sep 15.
During the convention, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would announce a relief package for the farmers who are facing problems due to low prices of their crops. Sources said that the convention’s organisers had asked Punjab Minister for Cooperative Malik Iqbal Channar to recommend 20 to 23 names of Kisan representatives from Bahawalpur, who allegedly sent the names of his cronies who were not the real representatives of the growers. The same nominations were made by PML-N MPA from Hasilpur Ch Muhammad Afzal Gill. The leaders of two different Kisan organisations of Bahawalpur, Kisan Ittehad and Pakistan Kisan Board, have rejected the nominations announced by Malik Iqbal and Afzal Gill and demanded that the true representatives of Bahawalpur farmers should be invited to the Kisan convention in Islamabad. Meanwhile, Kisan Ittehad Bahawalpur chapter president Hafiz Hafeez Ahmad while talking to The News said that the people who were nominated by the Punjab minister were not the real representatives of farmers. Likewise, the Pakistan Kisan Board chairman has also rejected the nominations sent by the Punjab minister for the convention.
700KG UNHYGIENIC MEAT SEIZED: Qaimpur police along with the Hasilpur Health DDHO on Sunday raided and recovered 700kg unhygienic meat from an illegal and unauthorized slaughterhouse established on Mailsi Link Road.
The team confiscated the meat and loader wagon and arrested its driver Azam. The police have registered a case against six accused, including Nadeem, Haji Ahmad, Abdul Sattar, Mona and Azam. Sources said that Nadeem, a butcher from Multan, was running this slaughterhouse and he was allegedly involved in sending this unhygienic meat to Multan.
