LAHORE:A committee comprising chief engineer Mechanical Locomotive, chief personnel officer and others has been constituted to investigate new recruitment in Pakistan Railways in district Rajanpur.

According to a spokesperson of Pakistan Railways, the committee will investigate alleged corruption and irregularities in the process of recruitment in railways in district Rajanpur and Multan division.

It is pertinent to mention here that the committee has been formed by senior general manager and acting chief executive officer (CEO) Pakistan Railways after a complaint from PTI MNA Sardar Riaz Mahmood Mazari from Rajanpur district. Sardar Riaz Mahmood had alleged that 21 jobs were sold in Rajanpur. “Jobs were sold for Rs 150,000 each. Everything is fraud. I can provide a complete list,” he had told the house on the floor of National Assembly. According to him, merit was ignored while the PTI government came to power on the slogans of merit and accountability. On the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary Farrukh Habib had replied that the jobs were given on merit. “If anyone is involved in corruption, action will be taken,” the parliamentary secretary said.

Speaker National Assembly Assad Qaisar had ordered investigation into alleged irregularities and corruption in Multan division Pakistan Railways. The speaker had said: “Serious charges have been levelled that need to be investigated.” It is interesting to note that Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed in a Geo TV programme had said he will cut throat of any official found involved in corruption.
