Food security
In a recent meeting Prime Minister Imran Khan directed his advisors to keep check of hoarders and profiteers in order to control the prices of food items. There is, however, an urgent need to take the necessary steps to formulate and implement a comprehensive and integrated strategy to curtail the decline in agricultural production.
A national seminar should be held wherein agricultural experts and representatives of farmers and all the stakeholders, including the FBR, should be invited to give their proposals to cope with the challenges and threats faced by the agriculture sector. In my view, food security should be accorded the highest priority by the prime minister and the progress of implementation of the strategy should be monitored on a weekly basis.
