SUKKUR: Millions of rupees misappropriation has been unearthed in three-year education project being run by Lahore-based NGO Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi in Sukkur and Shikarpur districts, The News has learnt. The project was funded by the Dubai Cares. Sources said the Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi working in Sukkur and Shikarpur districts misappropriated funds of Dubai Cares worth Rs470290050. The organization allegedly embezzled funds in procurement of material for the schools, books publication/curriculum, construction/repair & maintenance of schools, teachers hiring and salaries, government teachers training and their TA DA, events of children literature festival and others.

Three die in Haripur incidents

HARIPUR: Three persons were killed in separate incidents in the district on Wednesday. In the first incident, two motorcyclists collided head-on in the limits of the Saddar Police Station. Police officials said the incident happened on the Chappar Road. One Kashif died on the spot while Kashi, his wife and their minor child sustained injuries when the two bikes collided. In the second incident, a woman, Sagheera, a resident of Mohallah Rehmatabad, was crossing the road near Sara-i-Saleh when an unidentified motorcyclist hit her. She died on the spot. Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy allegedly committed a suicide in Sara-i-Niamat Khan village. According to family members, Umair was suffering from some mental illness.

Cop killed in Bannu attack

BANNU: A cop was shot dead in the Chowk Bazaar in the limits of the City Police Station on Wednesday, sources said. The sources said that the cop, Saudad Khan, was passing through the Chowk Bazaar when the rivals opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. The accused fled the scene while the body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu for the medico-legal formality. The motive behind the murder was stated to be an old enmity. The police registered a case against Ejaz and Muhammad Sultan on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Mauladad Khan.

ASI, private driver shot dead

PESHAWAR: An assistant sub-inspector was injured while a private driver was killed in an attack in the limits of Chamkani Police Station on Wednesday. Mohammad Hussain, ASI of the Yakatoot Police Station, was on his way in his car along with a private driver, Akhtar, when motorcyclists opened fire on them. Akhtar was killed on the spot while Hussain sustained injuries and was shifted to hospital. Some reports said the militants claimed responsibility for the attack on the police officer, saying he was on their hit list.

Three drug peddlers held in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: The police arrested three drug-peddlers, including a woman, in two separate actions here on Wednesday, sources said. The sources said that acting on a tip-off, the police pulled over a van (IDM-3312) at the double crossing on the Grand Trunk (GT) Road in Risalpur. On thorough search, the police seized four kilogram hashish being smuggled to Punjab and arrested two accused indentified as Farhad and Saadia, residents of Pir Sabaq. Meanwhile, one Riffat Zaman was arrested red-handed in Pirpiai locality and two kilogram ‘charas’ were seized from his possession.

Actress shot dead in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: Armed motorcyclists shot dead a young actress in front of her mother near Shubra Chowk on the Cavalry Road here on Wednesday, sources said. The sources said that Mussarat Shaheen, a TV and CD drama actress, was on way to bazaar along with her mother when two motorcyclists opened fire on her outside the bus stand near Shubra Chowk, killing her on the spot.
The body was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy. Eyewitnesses said that the bike-riders included a bearded middle-aged man. Kausar Shaheen, mother of the deceased, told the police that the family had no enmity with anyone. Scores of fans of the deceased actress rushed to the hospital after learning about the attack on her. The 22-year-old actress had performed in several TV dramas including Zid, Meena Me Gunah Shuwa and Dua Azmari.

Two alleged target killers arrested

PESHAWAR: The Capital City Police on Wednesday arrested two alleged target killers in separate actions in the city. The target killers identified as Ishaq and Ismail were arrested during raids in the inner city. They were wanted to the police force in attacks on the cops.
