Driver gunned down

karachi : A man who worked as a driver for a ride-hailing service was gunned down in Karachi’s upmarket Defence Housing Authority (DHA) neighbourhood on Saturday.

Police officials said that the incident took place near the Dukhtaran-e-Awam school located on Street No. 8 in DHA Phase-I. Taking action on the information received, the police reached the scene of the crime and found the driver in an injured condition.

The wounded man was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He was identified as 40-year-old Saleem, son of Allah Wasayo.

SHO Muhammad Ali said that at least two men on a motorcycle were behind the incident, adding that the driver was shot twice. Police and Rangers officials reached the site to collect evidences, including two empty shells of the pistol used in the murder.

Investigators have sent the empties to the forensic division of the Sindh police for ballistics cross-matching. They have ruled out the possibility of an attempted robbery, saying that Rs5,000 in cash and both mobile phones of the victim were found on him.

Police said that the man was survived by five children and he had hailed from Sanghar district, adding that he was apparently targeted over a personal enmity. His body was later handed over to his family for his funeral and burial.
