DIR: The students are facing difficulty in reaching schools as hilly areas in Upper Dir district received three to five feet snow.
The Education Department recently cancelled a notification about extension in the winter vacation.Earlier, the department issued the notification extending winter vocation till March 10 as most parts of the district received heavy snowfall including Dir city. The remote Kohistan valley including Kumrat, Thal, Lamoti, Doog Darra, Gwaldi, Sheringal, Barawal tehsil, Usheri Darra, and Nehag Darra received heavy snowfall this year. The Education Department had issued the notification extending the winter vocation to March 10 owing to heavy snowfall in hilly areas of the district. However, it cancelled the notification later. Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Mehsud said that the schools would be closed in areas where students could not move owing to heavy snowfall and the remaining ones would reopen.
However, the residents and parents of hilly areas have asked the Education Department and the district administration to extend vacation in hilly areas of the district.
