Four killed in Gujranwala road accidents

GUJRANWALA: Four people were killed and two others injured in three road accidents here on Thursday.
In the first incident, a car was going to Lahore when it struck against a road divider due to overspeeding near Kamoke. As a result, Usman Iqbal, 24, of Lahore and Waseem, 20, were killed on the spot while Wasif Ali, 28, was injured. The injured man was shifted to the DHQ Hospital. Kamoke Sadr police are investigating. In the second incident, Chand, 20, of Tatle Aali was on his way when a truck hit his motorcycle on Sheikhupura Road, killing him on the spot. Khiali police area investigating. In the third incident, a newly-married couple, Asif and Sobia, residents of Garjakh, were on their way when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle. As a result, Sobia was killed on the spot while her husband Asif suffered injuries. The coupled had married last month. Cantonment police are investigating.
Shopkeepers stage demo after dacoity

GUJRANWALA: An incident of dacoity was reported at Liberty Market on Sialkot Road on Thursday.
Four bandits broke into the Janjua cloth shop, took staff and customers hostage and made off with Rs 600,000. After the incident, shopkeepers staged a demonstration against poor security arrangements. They were chanting slogans against police. They also blocked a road by burning tyres. On information, police rushed to the spot and assured the protesting shopkeepers of soon arresting the dacoits. Later, the protesters dispersed.
