100 cops face disciplinary action for corruption

Islamabad: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Dr. Sultan Azam Temuri has said that disciplinary action has been taken against 100 police officials who were involved in corrupt practices or illegal activities.

Reviewing the overall performance of the force during the last three months, he said that special campaign was launched to curb drug peddling activities and 438 drug pushers were held after registration of 389 cases against them. He said that police recovered 122.095 kilogram hashish, 16.439 kilogram heroin, 2.5 kilogram opium, ice and several tranquilizing pills from them.

The IGP said that Islamabad police is an important department like other institutions and effective steps are being taken by the force to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. “Due to these efforts, there has been significant reduction in crime rate in the city while public trust has also restored on police department,” he maintained.

He said that Islamabad police is following zero tolerance policy against corruption while 100 police employees have to face disciplinary action due to their involvement in corruption or illegal activities.

The IGP said that no one is above the law and those doing wrong would have to face strict action. He said that community policing is the focus of Islamabad police force and seven police model police stations in the city and Facilitation Centre at Rescue 15 are providing quality services to people.

A total of 144 cases were registered after arrest of 182 bootleggers and a total of 10,388 wine and liquor bottles were recovered from them, the IGP said. He said that Islamabad police took action against those involved in immoral activities and arrested 65 females and 62 males following registration of 30 cases against them.

A total of 24 cases were registered after arrest of 40 gamblers while efforts are underway to curb gambling practices. Temuri said that effective action would be taken to curb use of narcotics especially in educational institutions and ban ‘Sheehsa’ Centres. He said that equal implementation of law would be ensured and those involved in unlawful or criminal activity would not be spared besides action against them as per law.
