Zardari’s refusal to put Raza Rabbani up as the unanimous candidate for the chairmanship of the Senate was another blow to the PPP. The argument put forward by certain PPP leaders that Rabbani’s nomination was not recommended because Nawaz Sharif proposed it is an incredibly weak argument. The real reason for this unfortunate decision is not difficult to comprehend.
By not nominating Raza Rabbani, Zardari deprived the PPP of a prestigious position in the Senate. He also robbed the Senate of one of its most effective and capable chairmen.
