Islamabad: The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has invited applications for the post of the Higher Education Commission chairperson, which is set to fall vacant on April 15 this year on the expiry of the four-year term of the incumbent, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad.
The people with significant academic and administrative background in higher education and 20 years experience can apply for the coveted position. However, the ministry, which oversees the higher education regulator, didn’t mention age limit for the post.
The development comes on the recommendations of a six-member ‘search committee’ formed by the prime minister to recommend three persons for the top HEC office to the prime minister to make a choice.
The committee consists of convener Syed Baber Ali and members Dr Sania Nishtar, Dr Faisal Bari, Shehnaz Wazir Ali, Mirza Qasim Baig and federal education and professional training secretary. The HEC chairman has a four-year term in office, which can be extended by the prime minister.
