IGP praises CTD performance

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani has appreciated the performance of the Counter Terrorism Department and hoped terrorism and kidnapping for ransom would be eliminated at all costs.
The CTD in two separate actions had arrested two each terrorists and kidnappers and recovered one kidnapped person, said a Police Department handout. In first action the CTD police arrested two alleged terrorists in Dauranpur in Peshawar. They were identified as Sher Khan, a Resident of Afghanistan, and Wazir, a resident of Muredke. Ten kg explosive material, five devices and four detonators were recovered from them.
The communication said terrorists wanted to target a bus in the general bus stand in Mardan. In another action, the CTD police arrested an Afghan kidnapper Noor Agha and his female accomplice Gulalai. The police recovered the kidnapped Shahid from their custody.
The press release said that the kidnappers had demanded Rs300 million ransom for releasing the captive. Two hand grenades and one 9 mm pistol was also recovered from them. Similarly the Upper Dir police had recovered a kidnapped Shahab-ud-Din from a house at Khazana Dherai in Mardan and arrested five kidnappers. Those arrested included the ring leader Purdil and his accomplice Nazar Gul.
The kidnappers demanded Rs 400 million as ransom for the release of the kidnapped person family.A police statement said the kidnappers were hired assassins and were also involved in killing of a police sub-inspector.
Addressing the ceremony, the IGP Nasir Khan Durrani commended the performance of the cops in the three cases.He said that after reforms introduced in the force, the CTD had emerged as a leading force against the terrorists and successes of the unit against the terrorist were an ample proof of it.
The IGP on the occasion awarded the police officers and jawan with cash prizes and commendation certificates. Those awarded included Deputy Superintendent of Police of CTD Syed Atiq Shah, Inspectors Sardar Hussain, Ghani-ur-Rahman, Hastam Khan, Tahir Shah, ASI Bismallah Jan and Constable Arif of CTD and Inspector Farooq Jan, ASI Habib Ullah, Head Constable Islam Yusuf and constable Imran Ahmad of Upper
