Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad applauded the efforts of the mathematicians to contribute intellectually to the field of pure and applied mathematics. He said mathematics was the mother of all sciences and its applications were needed in all other fields. Dr Hasan also threw light on the contributions of Muslim mathematicians such as Al-Khawarizmi, Thabit bin Qurrah, Abu Kamil, Al-Karaji and Al-Jayyani etc who introduced new concepts and led the field for more than two centuries. He also hoped that the conference would pave the way for a journey into innovation, discovery to turn human living into a faithful beginning for the coming generations.
The conference touched the recent advances in analysis, topology, algebraic geometry, number theory, fuzzy mathematics and dynamical systems. On the other hand, sessions were held on optimization techniques, relativity and subjects of interest in interdisciplinary sciences like physics, computer science and actuarial science.
The participants shared their latest research findings and ways to develop future collaborations. A UMT spokesperson said the Higher Education Commission approved grants for the first UMT conference whereas American Journal of Applied Mathematics (AJAM) and Punjab University Journal of Mathematics (PUJM) published proceedings of the conference respectively.
