The US drone attack in Kurram Agency caused ripples in the already strained ties between the US and Pakistan. Both the countries are loggerheads with each other when it comes to grappling with the Afghanistan issue. Pakistan warned the US against any unilateral action which could possibly bring the once long term allies on the verge of fight. Pakistan continues to assert that drone strikes are counterproductive since these attacks stir the sentiments of the Pakistani people. Because of these drone attacks, the Pakistani economy has suffered a lot. If the US is earnest in its desire to take on the insurgents or militants, why doesn’t it give this technology to Pakistan? Pakistan is a sovereign country with a robust military power. We should not allow any foreign power to intrude our territorial frontier.
The US must realise the fact that carrying out drone strikes inside Pakistan is not going to prove instrumental in this never ending war on terror. Pakistan has been hunting militants in the tribal areas since the US invasion of Afghanistan, but its contributions has always been ignored. The recent drone strike inside Pakistan is bound to exacerbate the already tensed US-Pakistan relationship. It is time Pakistan made it clear to the US that it will bring down the US drone, if it violated the frontiers of Pakistan. Our silence will further embolden the US to continue carrying out such strikes with impunity.
