PHP arrested 946 POs in 2017

LAHORE : The additional inspector general of Punjab Highway Patrol said the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) registered 18,695 cases against criminals and arrested 20,335 criminals in 2017.

He said that PHP also arrested 946 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 161 court absconders and rendered help to 148,040 travellers in the outgoing year. In addition, PHP reunited 423 children with their parents. The police force also removed 49,927 encroachments by launching special operations.

In 2017, PHP impounded 819,611 motorcycles. It seized 23 Kalashnikoves, 51 rifles, 130 guns and 598 pistols. It issued 164,958 fine tickets and collected Rs 55,210,447 which is 77 percent of the total tickets issued. PHP conducted 10 refresher courses. It launched seven special campaigns, included the campaign for green highways, campaign against the pollution-creating vehicles, the3 anti-tobacco drive, the drive against underage driving and the drive against speeding. PHP started a campaign against smoke-emitting vehicles in November 2017 and challaned 1,514 vehicles and imposed Rs 716,874 fine on them.
