While Imran Khan has heaved a sigh of relief after the Supreme Court’s verdict, he has lost his opening batsman Jahangir Tareen, a landlord from South Punjab who provided tremendous financial support to the party and was appointed the PTI’s general secretary.
While India implemented extensive land reforms after Partition, we were unable to manage our state affairs in an efficient manner. This resulted in poor economic conditions in the country. As a consequence, landlords began exploited the poor and made huge profits by preventing the poor from flourishing. For the past four years, Imran levelled corruption allegations against Nawaz Sharif in his quest to make a Naya Pakistan. However, it is ironic that his right-hand man also belonged to the same elite class. This is bound to affect his performance in the next elections. So, if he truly wants a change, Imran Khan must reconsider his tack.
