Doctors in danger

Doctors in Pakistan have become one of the favourite targets of criminals. We have been reading news of their killings and the incidents of mugging of doctors almost daily. Recently, a dentist was mugged and shot dead by criminals who followed him to his clinic.
Is this humanity? What do criminals want? Where is the police? Doctors take care of critically ill people. They treat them. It is sad that they are not spared either. Who can have anything against doctors? Pakistan is such a complicated country that no one knows who to blame. First we were told to avoid politics when we step outside. Then we were told to keep shut on matters relating to religion. And now we are told not to introduce ourselves as doctors – a profession which was once considered to be an honour – because of the threat it poses to our lives.
