RWMC puts up poor show

Rawalpindi

The Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) put up poor show during the holy month of Ramazan and also on occasion of Eidul Fitr turning a deaf ear to the problems of city dwellers.

Various parts of Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) particularly the Satellite Town and Muslim Town areas of the city were totally or partially ignored when it comes to cleanliness of streets.

Instead the staff of RWMC along with their vehicles were busy in cleanliness measures only on 6th Road and other adjoining areas while the inside streets particularly F-block and E-block areas in Satellite Town and B-V of Muslim Town where Nishter Street, Haider Street and inner streets remained unclean where heaps of debris, shrubs and scrap and silt from drains could be seen.

The residents of Satellite Town and Muslim Town have complained that staff of RWMC does not pay heed to their problems and staff arriving at site of heaps demand Eidi from them whereas it is there duty to clear the area.

The residents said they have also approached chairmen, vice chairmen and councillor but they also expressed their helplessness in the present circumstances. “ A heap of grass, shrubs and weeds is lying in our street for the last two weeks but no vehicle turned up during this period,” Nadeem, a resident of F block said.

“I have no powers to address your problems rather I hardly managed a couple of streetlights for my area,” a councillor of UC-14 said. The residents feel that staff of RWMC focus only in areas near residences of parliamentarians, some VIPs and chairmen of union councils.
