The government has allocated a total amount of Rs306 million for the Federal Ministry of Human Rights in the upcoming fiscal year including Rs52 million for the ongoing projects and Rs254 million for the four new projects.

The allocation for new projects include Rs112 million for acquisition of land and construction of building for National Institute of Human Rights, Rs100 million for construction of working women hostels, Rs12 million for implementation of action plan for Human Rights in Pakistan and Rs30 million for Institutional Strengthening of Ministry of Human Rights.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) approved the allotment two plots for working women hostels in G6 and G7 to the Ministry of Women Development (MoWD) in the year 2007. Since then, the scheme remained dormant due to bureaucratic delays and kept moving from one ministry to the other. The allocation of funds this year might start some action around the scheme.

Similarly, an amount of Rs150 million was allocated for the establishment of National Institute of Human Rights in last fiscal year. According to media reports, out of the total amount, the ministry utilised only Rs10 million till May 12, 2017 while the rest of the funds were surrendered at the end of this fiscal year on June 30.

The amount of Rs52 million reserved for two ongoing projects will include Rs25 million for helpline for legal Advice on Human Rights Violations and Rs27 million for establishment of National Institute of Human Rights, Islamabad.
