An NGO on Saturday organises a conference to discusses the issues related to language in education in Pakistan.

The event, Language and Learning Conference , was aimed to interrogate the role of regional, national and global languages in the education system of Pakistan, address the current practice of the teaching of languages, review the policies regarding the medium of instruction, and identify the key gaps and challenges that ultimately contribute to poor student learning.

The experts, speaking on the occasion, said that in the Pakistani context, there was a need for careful consideration of the roles of various languages that children were exposed to in the classroom, with a specific focus on the evidence that shed light on the appropriate medium of instruction to be used during early years of schooling.

They said language teachers needed to be trained to use pedagogical strategies that were the most effective in fostering authentic language learning among students.

They said that having an appropriate language-in-education policy was just the start of the struggle towards effective language learning. "Our teachers need to be supported and trained adequately, the appropriate language learning materials need to be developed, and we should strive to incorporate technology in our pursuit of authentic learning," the experts said.

Training: Lahore Transport Company (LTC) Saturday organised a training programme at RA Bazaar for drivers, fare collectors and other related staff in connection with operations of the buses plying on various routes.  LTC kicked off the training programme at different locations of the city with the collaboration of its private transport operators as awareness campaign to facilitate the general public.
