Woman killed in Landikotal by shell fired from Afghanistan

LANDIKOTAL: A woman was killed and a boy lost both his hands when a mortar  shell fired from Afghanistan hit a house in Samsay area of Loey Shalman in Landikotal tehsil of Khyber Agency, officials said on Friday.Assistant Political Agent, Landikotal, Niaz Muhammad, told The News that around 6 pm a mortar shell was fired from the Afghan side of the border that hit a house in Samsay village.He said the mortar shell killed the wife of Muhammad Saeed and caused serious injuries to his nine-year old son Naqeebullah.  He said the boy had lost both his hands.

Kidnapped man found dead in Bannu

BANNU: The body of a man who was kidnapped a day earlier by unidentified persons was found in Frontier Region (FR) Janikhel area on Friday, official sources said.They said that Asghar, a former employee of Counter-Terrorism Department was at home when gunmen kidnapped him at gun-point late Thursday night. His body was found dumped in a field in Janikhel area. The motive behind the killing was stated to be an old enmity.Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased staged a protest and blocked the road in the limits of Miryan Police Station to protest the killing. 

 

Mardan varsity to reopen on May 22

MARDAN: The administration of the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan has decided to reopen the institution from May 22, a press release said on Friday. It said the decision was made at the 22nd syndicate meeting of the university. Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Jahanzeb Khalil presided over the meeting that was attended by the representatives of chief justice of Peshawar High Court, Higher Education Department, Finance Department and others. The participants of the meeting decided that the university would reopen stepwise from May 22. It was decided at the meeting that political activities would be banned on campus and it would be monitored around the clock.

 

Absent teachers suspended in Landikotal

LANDIKOTAL: The officials of the Education Department, Fata, on Friday suspended two teachers for absenteeism during a visits to the government-run schools in far-flung Zakhakhel area of Landikotal tehsil in Khyber Agency, officials said.Agency Education Officer (AEO), Jadoon Khan Wazir, told The News the officials visited several government-run schools in the remote Zakhakhel area in Landikotal tehsil. He said two Primary School Teachers (PST) identified as Shahabuddin and Kalimullah were not performing their duties in Brag area of Bazaar Zakhakhel since long.
