SHO remanded in NAB custody

An accountability court Wednesday handed over an in-service inspector of Punjab police to NAB on seven-day remand. The inspector is accused of making assets worth millions beyond known source of income.   The court granted seven days remand of accused Inspector Muhammad Ismail who made assets worth millions while he was serving as an SHO in Sahiwal city.   According to a NAB spokesman, the NAB had received complaints against the accused in 2016 after which an inquiry was started against him. The inquiry upgraded on the level of investigation after which the arrest was made. He said during the course of investigation it revealed that the accused made assets worth millions beyond his known source of income including many vehicles, agriculture lands, bungalows and two plots measuring 16-canal each.  The accused will be produced again before the court by May 3.

 

 

 

MoU signed

Punjab University’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Three Gorges company for higher education of PU students in China.  According to a press release, the signing ceremony was held at Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology in which Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, Ms Yang Yu and Ms Yan Liuyl from China Three Gorges company and faculty members were present.  According to MoU, the Chinese company would support PU engineering students to pursue higher studies in China for two years.

Case registered

Faisal Town police registered a case against three people including driver of victim Mian Mahmood, a businessman, murdered over a property dispute on Tuesday.  The injured driver was taken into custody for further investigations. The victim’s dead body was handed over to his family after autopsy. An FIR No 394/17 was registered on the complaint of victim’s son Mian Tahir Mahmood in which driver Yasin, Azhar Shafiq Butt and Muhammad Kaleem have been nominated. An investigator said property dispute had resulted into the incident. 

 

Medical facilities in schools; replies sought

The Lahore High Court Wednesday sough replies from federal and Punjab governments to explain as to why there were no basic medical facilities available at public and private sector schools.   The court ordered the governments to file their replies till May 19.   A local resident, Faisal Ali, moved the petition. He said it was the government’s constitutional obligation to provide basic health facilities to the citizens but the same was not being done. He students have not been trained to cope with the situation like eruption of a fire in the private and public educational institutions. He pointed out that the government had not chalked out a policy to provide first aid training at schools.  He requested that both federal and provincial governments should be ordered to provide basic health facilities for school students and they should also be given training to meet any untoward incident.

 

 

 

Hot, dry weather likely

A dry weather with scattered clouds was observed in the city here Wednesday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours. Met officials said continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. They predicted that mainly hot and dry weather is expected over most parts of the country. However, light rain-thunderstorm along with gusty winds is expected at a few places in Hazara division, Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas. While dust-storm/gusty winds are also expected to blow in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions. Rainfall was recorded at several cities, including Parachinar (27mm), Kakul (04mm), Balakot (02mm), Rawalakot (14mm), Kotli (02mm), Muzaffarabad (01mm), DG Khan (02mm) and Murree and Mangla (01mm). Wednesday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Sh Benazirabad where mercury reached 45°C.
