PESHAWAR: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that future of the nation depends on quality and competence of its human resource, especially research scholars.
He was addressing as chief guest at the awards distribution ceremony of National Research Programme for Universities (NRPU) under the aegis of Higher Education Commission at Governor’s House on Saturday, said a handout.
Speaking on the occasion, Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Mukhtiar Ahmad highlighted the aims of the programme. Vice-chancellors of various universities, faculties, members, research scholars and students were also present on the occasion.
In Pakistan, the governor said, the young and energetic people made 60 percent of the country’s population and investment on the segment will have the highest dividends.With this fact in mind, the governor said, the government has been focusing on education as a major component of the framework for development and social change.
Within education, he added, the role of higher education was crucial, and achieving institutional capacity for knowledge creation, promoting research and development are must to address emerging challenges.
“The country needs an education system that promotes creativity, analytical thinking, teamwork and strong ethical foundations,” he added.The governor also gave away shields to researchers on the occasion.
