CASE students win underwater robotics contest

Islamabad: Doing its educational institution proud, a team of the Center for Advanced Studies in Engineering (CASE) has secured top position in one of the world’s largest underwater robotics challenges, Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge, in Singapore.

The SAUVC is famous for providing students with the opportunity to learn about the design of robots which can automatically navigate underwater and perform assigned tasks.

The event was hosted by the IEEE, Singapore chapter at the Singapore Polytechnic.

According to a spokesman for the CASE, this is the first time that any Pakistani team has participated in the prestigious event.

"Fourteen teams from eight countries including USA, China, India, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore participated in the event. Pakistani team apart from sharing top position with Russia also bagged the Best Social Media Campaign Award," he said.

The spokesman said the CASE team comprised four students Haider Iftikhar, Usman Abid, Saad Malik and Mehrosh Fareed and was supervised by three faculty members Dr. Mansoor Shaukat, Adeel Muhammad and Waqasur Rehman from the CASE Robotics Group.
