Pakistan Railways has launched a mobile application so that people can reserve seats of their choice without visiting their local reservation offices. Previously the railways introduced an e-ticketing system in October 2016 and earned around Rs60 million through e- ticketing in only a few months. The introduction of the mobile application is another commendable initiative taken to facilitate passengers. Through the recently-launched application, it will be easy to get information regarding arrival, delays, expected travel time, stoppages and payments solution. The IT industry is regarded as one of the most economically successful sectors of Pakistan even when the country’s economy was under a financial crisis. There has been remarkable progress in creating effective computerised systems in Pakistan for major departments such as police, law enforcement agencies and district administration.
The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has also presented computerised registration systems for issuing important documents such as national identity cards, passports, and permanent residency cards. IT has also been critically important in improving work procedures of the civil service and other government-related fields. Software development is one of the fastest growing fields in Pakistan. Many IT companies are developing software for use in different types of businesses and services. The government should focus more on this sector and invest to develop and promote the IT sector to meet the upcoming challenges and compete with the world.
