Water shortage

By our correspondents
February 24, 2017

Karachi is the biggest and a thickly dense city of Pakistan. Among a plethora of problems in the city, the problem of the water shortage has affected a large number of people. Thickly populated areas like Gulshan-e-Iqbal suffer the most. Citizens have to buy water tankers at high prices – starting from Rs3,000.

The people belonging to the lower-middle and lower classes cannot even afford to arrange water from alternative sources. Water is an essential need and its shortage has negative effects on the daily routine of the people. This is the responsibility of the provincial government to resolve these serious issues.

It is the responsibility of the government to provide the basic facilities to the people. It seems that the Sindh government is not aware of the problems faced by residents of Sector 7 North Karachi. The residents are facing the problem of water shortage. They have also lodged a formal complaint but to no avail. The chief minister of Sindh had vowed to make the living condition of citizens better. However, the laid-back attitude of concerned departments has added more to the misery of the people. Even when the supply is restored, the water is unclean. It has an unpleasant smell and is unfit for consumption.

As an alternative, the residents have to purchase water tankers at high prices. It is unfortunate that despite paying taxes regularly, the people of the area don’t have access to clean drinking water. The KWSB has turned a blind eye to the problem. The authorities need to take immediate and urgent action to ensure regular water supply in the area so that the daily routine of the residents is not disturbed.
